PTA Urges Mobile Users to Ensure SIMs Are Registered Under Their Own CNICs
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has warned mobile users to ensure that all SIM cards are registered in their own names. Using a SIM issued on another person’s CNIC is against telecom regulations and may lead to action by the regulator.

PTA stated that the individual whose name appears on the SIM registration is legally responsible for all activity carried out through that number. This includes calls, messages, mobile internet usage, and any form of communication linked to the SIM.
The authority highlighted that improper SIM usage can create serious security risks and complicate investigations related to fraud and cybercrime. For this reason, accountability always falls on the registered owner, even if someone else is using the SIM.
Mobile users have been advised to check their active SIMs and update registration details where necessary. Sharing SIMs without officially transferring ownership is strongly discouraged.
PTA urged the public to act responsibly and support the safety and reliability of Pakistan’s telecom system. Non-compliance may result in SIM blocking or other enforcement measures.
