PMD Forecasts Rain, Snow as Western Weather System to Hit Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that a western disturbance is set to enter the country from December 29, bringing intermittent rainfall, thunderstorms, and snowfall across several regions. The system is expected to strengthen by December 30 and continue affecting northern areas until January 2, 2026.

In Punjab, Murree and the Galyat region may see rain and snowfall in hilly areas from the evening of December 30. Cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Gujrat, and Sialkot are likely to experience heavy rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms on December 31 and January 1. Southern Punjab cities such as Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Muzaffargarh may witness light rain with gusty winds.

Balochistan will face strong winds, rain, and snowfall in hilly areas, including Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Turbat, Gwadar, and Zhob, between December 29 and 31.

In Sindh, light rain or drizzle is expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, Jacobabad, Thatta, and surrounding districts.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will see intermittent rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in areas such as Peshawar, Abbottabad, Swat, Kohat, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan, with moderate to heavy snowfall in upper regions.

Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir are expected to experience rain and snowfall in Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, and surrounding areas from the evening of December 30 until January 2.

Travelers are advised to exercise caution and follow weather updates due to the anticipated adverse conditions.
