PCB to Temporarily Operate Multan Sultans Ahead of PSL 11, Plans Franchise Auction

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced it will operate the Multan Sultans franchise for PSL 11, with plans to auction the team after the season concludes, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said on Sunday.

The announcement follows the exit of Ali Tareen from the franchise, citing strained relations with the board over the past year. Naqvi confirmed the franchise will be managed by the PCB this season, while the auction for ownership is scheduled after the league ends.

The chairman also stated that the PSL 11 season is expected to kick off on March 23, slightly earlier than initially planned, pending consultations with all franchises. Additionally, former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has been named as the PSL brand ambassador ahead of the new season.

On league expansion, Naqvi revealed that the auction for two new PSL franchises will take place on January 8 in Islamabad, with ten parties already shortlisted for the second stage. With these additions, PSL 11 will see the league grow from six to eight teams, marking its first major restructuring in seven years.

The Multan Sultans, initially awarded to the Schon Group and later acquired by Alamgir and Ali Tareen, will now operate under PCB supervision, ensuring continuity ahead of the upcoming season.
