Banks to Remain Closed on January 1 as SBP Declares Official Bank Holiday
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced a bank holiday on January 1, 2026, confirming that banks will remain closed for public dealings across the country.
In an official notification issued on Tuesday, the SBP said that all commercial banks, microfinance banks, and development finance institutions will not provide services to customers on the day.
The central bank clarified that while branches will be closed for the public, bank employees will report to work as usual. Routine internal operations and administrative work will continue during office hours.
The holiday has been declared in line with the annual banking schedule, and customers have been advised to plan their financial transactions accordingly to avoid inconvenience.
Digital banking services, including mobile banking apps, ATMs, and online transfers, are expected to remain operational, allowing users to access essential services despite the closure.
