Islamabad Opens New Underpass at Shaheen Chowk to Ease Traffic Flow

Islamabad has officially opened a new underpass at Shaheen Chowk, offering much-needed relief to commuters at one of the capital’s busiest junctions. The project is expected to improve daily travel for thousands of motorists.

The underpass was completed in just 63 days, a timeline officials described as record-breaking. Authorities say the signal-free corridor will help reduce congestion, cut travel time, and ensure smoother traffic movement, especially during peak hours.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced that the underpass has been opened for immediate use. He said the modern design allows uninterrupted vehicle flow, while permanent decorative lighting has been installed to improve visibility and enhance the area’s appearance.

Before the opening, CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa inspected the site and reviewed the final work. Officials confirmed that construction was completed on schedule, reflecting improved coordination and project management.

Alongside the development, the Interior Minister also announced New Year’s Eve celebrations at F-9 Park, with special traffic and parking arrangements. Authorities said the new underpass is part of Islamabad’s wider push to strengthen infrastructure and improve urban mobility for residents.
