Cold Wave Expected in Karachi After Rainfall, PMD Warns

Karachi is expected to feel a sharp drop in temperatures between January 4 and 5, with the mercury possibly falling to single digits, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

PMD Deputy Director Anjum Nazeer said several western weather systems have affected Pakistan since December 29, bringing light rain to different parts of Karachi. The highest rainfall of six millimetres was recorded in the Kemari area.

He added that rain activity in the city has mostly ended, but colder conditions are likely to intensify. As the western system moves eastward, cold Siberian winds are expected to dominate the region, increasing the chill over the weekend.

The PMD has also forecast rain, wind, and thunderstorms in parts of northern Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Islamabad, and Punjab, with snowfall in hilly areas.
