Tragic Death of 8-Year-Old in Korangi Highlights Karachi’s Infrastructure Negligence

Grief and anger engulfed Korangi as an eight-year-old child lost his life after falling into an uncovered manhole in the industrial area. The incident has once again exposed the deadly consequences of poor city infrastructure and negligence.

The child’s father, Dilbar Ali, spoke through tears, sharing his heartbreak. “He was my only son. The sewer covers were removed a month ago for cleaning, but no one replaced them. Next month, I was to admit him to school… how did I know this would happen?”

The tragedy prompted senior officials to visit the family. Karachi Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad assured the public that those responsible would be held accountable, regardless of political affiliation. He confirmed that sewer covers had been provided to the union councils, and funds allocated, but negligence persisted.

Murad emphasized, “This town does not belong to any political party, but the deceased child is our son. Responsibility will be fixed, and justice served, just as in previous cases.”

As the city mourns, residents and the family are left asking a haunting question: how many more children must die before safety and accountability replace negligence?
